Although the beach holiday will always be popular, the city break affords us the chance to really embrace a little culture and open our minds to some interesting and new experiences.
Staying in a city hotel gives you the chance to be within walking distance to some brilliant events. If you are thinking of visiting the grand city of New York in 2013, then here’s a heads up to some of the things going on over the year.
New York Fashion Week: February 7-14th
For anyone who is a dedicated follower of fashion, this event was the world’s first ever organised fashion week. Started in 1943, this event collects the best and the brightest in the world of clothing. Usually held in winter and autumn, the event promises to be an exciting and innovative experience!
Location: Lincoln Centre for Performing Arts, Manhattan
US Tennis Open: August 26 – September 9th
A tournament that is one of the oldest in the world (seems New York makes a habit of that). The US Tennis Open is the fourth of the major Tennis competitions comprising the Grand Slam each year. The world’s finest tennis players gather in New York to compete in the five events on hard court, as opposed to grass or clay.
Location: Flushing Meadows, Queens
New York Comic Con: TBA
Although the Comic Con held in San Diego is the most famous, the New York equivalent is still an impressive affair. Usually held in either February or October, it’s a haven for fans of comics, film, television and books. Many artists, actors and writers will be in attendance, offering unique insight into their work. A great day out for the entire family.
Location: Jacob Javits Center, Manhattan
This is just a small taste of the Big Apple. There’s so much more going on throughout the whole year!
