As we get nearer to the summer months, people who enjoy travel and foreign holidays will be searching for their passports and planning ahead for their big summer breaks. If you are one of those people, these are seven excellent spots to consider visiting this year.

1) Burma

Another place with a guarantee of warm weather is Burma, and this also offers a landscape totally different to anything you will have experienced before. You can hit the Shan Highlands for hiking, explore Burma’s capital Inwa or take a cruise trip along the Irrawady River.

2) Cuba

Cuba is on the road to becoming a hot tourist destination, but hasn’t quite arrived yet, making this the best time to visit. The humid climate will make lazy sunbathing appealing and Varadero has a great beach for this, while those with the energy to go exploring will want to check out Old Havana. Designated a World Heritage spot by Unesco, you can see the home Ernest Hemingway lived in or visit a factory producing the famed cigars.

3) Kotor

If you want some sunshine but think Cuba might be a little too hot to handle, Kotor – located on the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro – will be perfect. It has a lovely beach and clear blue ocean, beautiful medieval buildings and balconies and piazzas reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet. This secluded spot is the ideal place for a romantic getaway, with the Hotel Astoria the place to stay.

4) Great Barrier Reef

Everyone knows about the big cities like Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, but the Great Barrier Reef will offer the chance to get back to nature. This line of islands running for 1,400 miles offers sand cays, coral reefs and a chance for great swimming and scuba diving in the warm sunshine that is guaranteed there.

5) Las Vegas

Long one of the world’s most popular holiday destinations, Las Vegas has a hot climate and entertainment to suit people of all ages. For kids there is the Adventuredome theme, plus magic and comedy shows. For adults there is great casino gaming at the likes of the Bellagio, for which you can always get some early practice for by playing some mobile casino on your way there, as well as live sports, comedy and music.

6) Dublin

If hot weather is not one of the more important things for you when it comes to your summer holiday, Dublin has plenty of other attractions to offer. There are great pubs and clubs here at any time, but 2016 also sees a host of events being held to recognise the centenary of the Easter Rising. The National Museum is hosting an exhibition dedicated to it, while theatre, music and dance events are taking place all year.

7) Praia de Barranco

For families with an interest in sports and keeping active, this spot in the Algarve has a superb tennis academy with both grass and clay courts, where you can get lessons. Young children will also love the Pirate Club and Junior Club, where the fun includes water ball, football, disc bowls and mini golf. Furthermore, the location promises lovely weather.

Thus, the world is truly your oyster this coming summer, with the only problem being which place to pick!
