The Rockerfeller centre or “The Rock” as it is known, is home today show studios and radio city music hall, this huge complex offers something for everyone. The Rockerfeller Centre was declared a national landmark in 1987 and spans the entire area between 5th and 6th avenue in the centre of Midtown Manhattan. Central Park spans a huge 843 acres of land across the borough of Manhattan. The park was initially opened in 1857. A year later in 1858, Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux won a design competition to expand and improve upon the park with a plan they called the “Greenswald Plan”. Construction began later that year and was finished in 1873, it wasn’t listed as a National Landmark until 1962. Central Park is one of the most filmed locations in the world, if you recall such films as Home Alone 2 and Enchanted, don’t miss out on some excellent photo opportunities.
If you are visiting Central Park, close by is the American Museum of Natural History (or commonly abbreviated to AMNH), the museum is situated across the street from Central Park in park-like grounds. AMNH’s collections contain more than 32 million specimens of plants, humans, animals, fossils, rocks, minerals, meteorites and human cultural artefacts, which is only a very small percentage of what they can display at any one given time. This is one of the largest museums in the world and hosts on average 5 million visits a year, don’t miss out on your chance to see this spectacular display of Natural History, there are various buses and trains that run to the museum of natural history, if you are planning a trip to the museum, I am sure that the staff will be more than happy to advise you on the best way to get there.
