Best Day Trips from Antigua

As tempting as it can be to lie back on a sun lounger with the sand between your toes and your head firmly engrossed in a good book Antigua has much more to offer than just stunning beaches and warm waters.

Here we take a look at some of the best excursions on, off and around the island

Barbuda

Take a 90 minute Catamaran to neighboring Barbuda and dine on fresh lobster as you enjoy a beachside picnic. There’s also Scuba Diving and Snorkeling available, along with horseback riding along the shore. Or why not head to the frigate bird sanctuary, the largest outside of the Galapagos Islands. If that all sounds a bit too energetic then just lay back on one of the many pink and white sand beaches with cocktail in hand and enjoy a day in tropical paradise… there’s no better place to while away the afternoon under the glorious Caribbean sun

Helicopter Tour

It’s one thing to enjoy Antigua from the ground but to really take in the beauty of the island one must take to the skies. Enjoy a helicopter tour around the island and soak up sights some of which are only accessible by helicopter.

For an even more exhilarating trip visit the island of Montserrat, once home to a world famous recording studio frequented by the likes of Simon Cowell, Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney Montserrat is now sparsely populated due to the active volcano that continues to emit clouds of steam and ash. Take in a bird’s eye view of locations inaccessible by any other means, a truly breathtaking experience.

Become a pirate for the day

Slip on and eye patch and prepare your best Jack Sparrow impression as you take to sea on a pirate day cruise.

The cruise begins to the sound of cannon fire as the ship passes Fort St James, then it’s time to explore the tropical marine life that the Caribbean is famous for as you dive off of the ship and snorkel around the crystal waters… of course if relaxation is on the agenda you’re welcome to just lie back and soak up the sun on the top deck.

As the day draws in the BBQ is lit, the bar is opened and the party begins as traditional Caribbean fare is washed down with Calypso music and cocktails… perfect for dancing the night away.

To really make the most of your trip we recommend staying at the Blue Waters resort. Situated in a prime location in the north of the island this beachfront resort offers gourmet food, excellent service and the chance to do as little or as much as you want… be it laying back in your own private infinity pool or enjoying one of the many watersports the resort  offers, you’re guaranteed a dream Caribbean holiday

Post by Matthew Coe a UK based travel blogger; if you like the sound of these trips then why not base yourself at an all-inclusive resort in Antigua such as Blue Waters.
